Garbage & Recycling Collection

Garbage and recycling services for the City of El Lago are provided by AmeriWaste. Pick up for garbage is twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays; recyclable materials are picked up on Wednesdays. Solid waste and recyclables must be out by 7 a.m. Details follow below:
  • Saturday: Backdoor Household Waste and Curbside Green Waste and Curbside Bulky Waste
  • Wednesday: Backdoor Household Waste, Curbside Green Waste, Curbside Recycling


  • Curbside: Curbside refers to refuse placed along the curb in front of the residence.
  • Backdoor: Backdoor refers to refuse placed near the back door or garage of a residence, not behind any closed or locked gates or doors.
  • Household Waste: Only household trash in 30-gallon bags or cans, not to exceed 50 pounds and total of 10 bags / bundles when combined with green waste will be picked up.
  • Green Waste: Includes tree trimmings, shrubs, brush and grass clippings. All items must be bagged or in bundles (bundles not to exceed 5 feet in length and 50 pounds in weight); not to exceed a combined total of 10 bags / bundles when combined with household waste.
  • Recycling: All recyclable items should be reasonably clean. No bundling is needed. Please secure all items such that the wind does not blow them into the street or yard. There is no need to remove labels.
  • Bulky Waste: Includes appliances (refrigerants must be drained from air conditioners, refrigerators, and freezers and the appliance must be tagged), furniture, mattresses, construction debris, etc. All items must be manageable by 2 workers and capable of being placed in a compactor truck as is. No more than 2 bulky items per pick up day. For flat screen TV's over 65" and tube TV's over 31" please call Ameriwaste for a fee schedule and procedures. The city is NOT responsible for special pickups.

Bulk & Construction Waste

Solid waste and recycle services are paid for by the city. However for the removal of large or excessive amounts of bulk or construction waste, please contact AmeriWaste for a schedule and fees by calling 281-331-8400. The city is NOT responsible for special pickups.

Holiday Schedule

The following holidays will be observed by AmeriWaste:

  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
If the collection day falls on a holiday, collection will resume on the next regularly scheduled collection day. Ameriwaste does not add a collection due to holidays.
