You can apply for a homestead exemption with the Harris County Appraisal District (Phone: 713-224-1919, ext. 2390), to protect your primary residence from seizure in some legal proceedings and to reduce your taxable value by 20%.
City of El Lago
The City of El Lago also grants over age 65 homeowners a $10,000 reduction on their assessed property values for taxing purposes. A reduction may be available for disabled veterans as well.
Galveston County Central Appraisal District
