Seeking right candidate for the position of City Secretary for the City of El Lago


Salary: Commensurate with experience (50 to 65K annually)

Education Requirements: Associates or higher college education desired, but not mandatory for the right candidate Current Texas Municipal Clerk Certification or ability to obtain the certification within the first 5 years of employment

Experience Requirements: Previous municipal related experience will be considered a plus. 

A minimum of 5-years experience required in the following:

• Administrative work utilizing typical office suite software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint

• Bookkeeping – using full double entry accounting software, (Quickbooks preferred) including receivables, payables, payroll, benefits and budgeting

A minimum of 2-years experience required in the following:

• Managing a staff of 6 or more

• Budgeting – creating and holding self and staff accountable to an annual budget

• Working positively with the general public

Other preferred experience:

• Coordination and/or management of large special events

• Professional social media communication to large groups

• Some minor graphics ability such as to create signs and flyers

Working under the direct supervision of the City Mayor or their designee, the right candidate would have excellent written and oral communication skills; be able to prioritize workload for self and staff; and be energetic and enthusiastic in carrying out the duties and responsibilities necessary to ensure that City Hall and other facilities run smoothly; residents are facilitated with their needs; and the Mayor, Council and other Boards and Commissions are provided with information/documentation required for their individual responsibilities. The City Secretary has direct oversight of and participation in the City’s finances; records management; ordinance codification; annual budget; meeting agenda/minutes preparation; website; city-wide special events, communication with residents and the operation of City Hall and other City facilities such as the Municipal Court, pool, event room, park and gym. Therefore, good organization, decision making, and interpersonal skills are a must along with multitasking, servant leadership and accountability. This position does require light physical activity which includes a certain amount of light lifting (< 30 lb) and brusque walking between facilities. Some evenings and weekends are required for meetings and city events.
